First Pair of Boots
“Bang” the sound of the door being closed on a hot summer day. I woke up to see the amazing sunshine shining through the windows of the house. I knew today would be the last day being able to see the beautiful view of Belvedere, South Dakota, but I would wake up never knowing what was going to happen later. I got ready to get ready to go back home when my grandma’s friend Roy gave me his pair of boots I was happier than pigs in mud. (I could not believe it; I had gotten my first pair of boots.)
I knew how much Roy loved those boots, and how he keeps everything he loved close to him. Roy had many pair of boots and loved them all. “He never let anyone wear or have anything of his stuff before”, my grandma told me. My reaction to the boots at first was there’s no way he give me a pair of boots that are over two hundred dollars, but he did. I had never seen a man like Roy that would keep all his things to himself, but he does sell things when he has to which is once in a blue moon. That’s why when he handed them to me I felt like the whole world paused just for a moment; I was confused and happy all at the same time.)
Roy would never let anything of his go to anyone he just meet, and I hadn't known Roy very long only for the four days we stayed there at his house. My grandma likes to tell me stories of how he never let anyone use or even have his stuff. I had always imaged Roy as a giving person, but he just likes to give things to people he can trust or depend on. He never had given a pair of boots like that away, but I was shocked when he handed me the boots. I had never know of anyone that was like that until I met Roy and he gave me his favorite pair of boots.)
Never in my life would I have imaged that I would of gotten a pair of boots from someone so conserved. I had never gotten a pair of boots before in my life, and I couldn't be any happier than how I felt when they were handed to me. I had always asked my mom and dad for a pair of boots, but they could never get them. When they were handed to me I took one look at them and felt like the happiest girl in the world. You can tell they had there days around the pasture and they had looked to old as the ocean, but I slipped them on and I could feel like I if they were brand new. Just to walk around in them I felt good and proud. Roy looked at me and said “You can have them just until your grandma or mom can buy you a new pair of boots.” I told him “ok” then went on getting packed up to go back to O’Neill, and much as I didn't want to go back I had to.)
Still today I wear them a lot even though I got a new pair of boots. I always wear them to go see my horse Dakota, and I always feel good climbing into the saddle with my those boots. I always look at them and remember the good time out at Roy’s house and wish that I could go back and do all those fun things again. I would never forget that day out at Roy’s house for the rest of my life.)
